Grades

Back in the good old days of high school- I didn’t really care about school work. I did the minimum of what was required, and sometimes got an A and sometimes got a C. But I was happy with either grade. I felt bad for the girls that actually cared. None of them were going to an Ivy League college, or even something besides Touro, Maalot or Community College, so why waste your time? I did well on my SATs and ACTs, so wasn’t that all that mattered? I had a good time in school, while they were busy making themselves crazy over tests and reports.
But now that I’m in college- I really care. It’s so different from how I used to be, it’s almost creepy! I’m not used to caring about my grades. Now I’m only satisfied with an A, while in high school, I was ok with whatever was the passing grade. A few of my friends actually make fun of me now about how studious I am! They’re like what happened to you?!
I was just talking about this with a friend of mine on shabbos, and we thought maybe it's a "frum girl" thing. They don't care about the education or the knowledge, they just care about the grades.

Sometimes it’s nice to actually care and take pride in what you do, but then it becomes sad if you don’t do well on something. Sometimes I miss being carefree, relaxed, and so easy-going about school.

By me I always cared about the grade for the grade sake, and it was based on what I felt my potential was. If it was a horrible boring subject or teacher then I wouldn't care what grade I got, cause I knew it wasn't my fault. I would allow myself to not do well in at least one class.

By college there is more of a drive to do well in all classes because they all affect your GPA. Although by my college there is a pass/fail option which allows you to do not so well in some classes. Which I may decide to take advantage of.

If you plan on going to grad school, you had better care. Unless you can get the A's without wasting too much passion on it. ;-)

Dunno, I've always cared about my grades - it's nice to see some return when you put in studying time. And if I wasn't studying for tests chances are I'd forget a lot of what I learned.
