Road trip

This is very sad… I'm beginning to think that blogging was just a phase I went through! I'm trying to keep up with it, but I really have no time! I have a ton of half posts started, but I never get around to actually writing them.

Next week starts my winter break (Finally!), and someone here asked me if I could drive their car to New York and then fly back. I figured why not since I won’t be doing anything anyway. I'm leaving here on Tuesday afternoon right after my last (and only) final, and then stopping in Ohio, staying there for the night, and then going to New York early the next day. I feel a little like Frum Satire, taking a road trip alone, but it just didn’t work out to go with anyone else. I had a friend in a different city that wanted to go with me, but that would mean going 2 hours out of my way just to pick her up. I didn’t feel like it was worth it. I'm not nervous or excited about driving alone for almost 18 hours.

I'm going to bring a lot of music, some shiurim on CD/tape, and someone suggested getting a book on tape/CD from the library. Anyone have any other suggestions?

audio books are a great idea. audible.com is a good place to find them.

From my vast experience, you'll want a loaded MP3 player/loads of CD's. Music, shiurim, books on tape, whatever. Driving snacks are your friend. I don't know what the kosher food situation is but bring sandwiches just in case.

Since you're stopping overnight you don't have to deal with hotels or sleeping in rest stops, which are arguably what makes a road trip, a road trip. Make sure the cars roadworthy beforehand. Nothing worse than breaking down in the middle of nowhere and waiting for AAA to show up (fun!).

I guess thats it. Hatzlacha.

Lemme know if you need something in Ohio. I have a couple of friends on your route... :)

Get a car charger for your phone if you don't have one. You'll be bored and calling people plenty, I'm guessing.

Don't be afraid to stop and talk to random (nice, safe-looking family type!) people at rest stops and what not. You get weird fun stories that way. :P

I suggest taking an inland more scenic route, than the coastal boring/traffic/trucker route. if you have AAA, go into a center, they will give you maps, tips, and highlight the best routes, all for free.
Also singing along at the top of lungs really helps to keep you awake and entertained. lol

I know the feeling, I still have my notebook of ideas and posts, I'll probably never get to typing up, let alone keeping up with the comments day to day.

Its a shame, because you call yourself sunshine and you really do brighten my day.

As per your road trip, if you like shiurim, try out http://www.kolhashiurim.com . They have over 120,0000 to choose from.
