Unfollowing

You know how "unfriending" someone on facebook is kind of making a statement? What about "unfollowing" someones blog? Is that the same thing?

Hey! I was gonna post about this too. I lost three followers recently and I am letting it bother me more than I will admit to. I was also thinking to write a post about it.
Any thoughts guys? Is there something going on in blogsville that I don't know about?

How do you lose a follower?

that person clicked "stop following"

You can't even compare to the two in my opinion. The reasons behind "unfriending" and "unfollowing" , would be quite different.

Also when you're "unfollowing" a blog, it doesn't mean your blog is nor being read any more by that person. A blog can be followed publicly or privately...

There's a lot to elaborate on this...

yea and i dont even remember who was following before, so i dont even know who unfollowed!

unfollowing while more understandable probably hurts more. it means they arent interested in reading about you/your opinions anymore. unfriending is more about either not being friends in the first place, or are in a fight, or dont want you to know about their life.

I think unfriending is actually less insulting because maybe it means the person just wants more privacy, which is not an issue with following. On the other hand, people could still be reading your blog without announcing themselves as followers. Whatever. It's just different.

I don't really know so much yet, I haven't been around long enough to gather a following...

Hi, just happened to click on this blog & noticed your post. Not sure if you're all up on the latest in Blogger, but ever since they started with Friend Connect they placed some followers as hidden ... they're still following, you just can't see it. You can go to the official Google blog for more info

Same here, I lost two followers.

I seem the think its even better when someone adds you to their blogroll, its better than just following, but thats just my opinion.

I think it's different, one is a symmetric relationship and one is an asymmetric relationship.

By facebook, it's symmetric, it takes 2 to make a connection, and if one unfriends the other it's worse, cause you need the other's friendship in order to be their friend.

By following,, it's asymmetric, it only takes one to follow and make the connection, so if one unfollows, it's okay cause you can still choose to follow them back. Plus it's never a committed relationship to begin with, since it's only one sided, there's no way to make sure they stay your follower.

Also, I don't think followers say much, because it could be people just want their picture on your blog, so that other people find them, so that's why they follow you. I used to use the blog draft home page and look at my followers stuff, but I haven't done that in a while, so really me following a blog doesn't mean I'm reading it anymore than others, it's just that I like the blog, or plan on reading more about it and want to be able to find it at another time.

Espes: lol, it just happened to be that yesterday I was reading an article on this, so that's where I knew the words from. The article was talking about facebook copying twitter and becoming a following relationship instead of a friend relationship. We'll see if they do that, hopefully now, I like the friend part.
